BABY TEETHING AGE, SIGNS, TIPS FOR PARENTS & MYTHS

WHAT IS BABY THEETHING? Today I will try to give you as much information as possible about an interesting topic i.e. BABY TEETHING AGE, SIGNS, MYTHS AND TIPS FOR PARENTS.  A mother cares about how her child is growing, from a tiny creature to a capable child. That's why today in this blog I am going to give you some tips from my own experience as a parent to tell you what the symptoms are of when your baby's teeth start coming out, what are the false rumors that you should avoid during this period. Before that we should know about the types of teeth.

THESE ARE TYPES OF PERMENANT TEETH IN HUMAN

Central Incisors: The two front teeth at the top and bottom.
  • Upper Central Incisors: 8–12 months
  • Lower Central Incisors: 6–10 months

Lateral Incisors: The teeth next to the central incisors, one on each side, both at the top and bottom.
  • Upper Lateral Incisors: 9–13 months
  • Lower Lateral Incisors: 10–16 months

Canines
: The pointed teeth next to the lateral incisors.
  • Upper Canines: 16–22 months
  • Lower Canines: 17–23 months

Premolars: These teeth are next to the canines, though in baby teeth they are not fully developed like adult premolars.
  • Upper Premolars: 13–19 months
  • Lower Premolars: 14–18 months

Molars: The large teeth at the back of the mouth, behind the canines.
  • Upper Molars: 25–33 months
  • Lower Molars: 23–31 months
Premolars typically don’t emerge in children until the permanent teeth come in, usually around age 10-12, since baby teeth don’t include premolars.
You will get clear idea from below pictures. Left side gives idea about months when primary tooth comes in and right side gives idea about the years when primary tooth is lost.

BABY TEETHING AGE, SIGNS, TIPS FOR PARENTS & MYTHS

From this picture you must have got a basic idea about which type of teeth start coming in which month. But we must keep in mind that every child's growth process may be different from another child, some children start early, and some children start late.

SIGNS OF BABY TEETHING-

  • Increased salivation in the baby - This is the first and most visible sign. At such a time, the baby's red glands are very stimulated, which causes saliva to come out. To wipe the saliva, the mother should use a clean, soft cloth so that the baby does not get rashes near the chin.
  • Increased body temperature - At such a time, the baby's body temperature is slightly increased, which is not permanent.
  • Chewing things - When teething, the baby is very fussy, and to calm them down, they sit well with whatever object is in the baby's hand.
  • Irritability - It is natural that at such a time the baby is very irritable, crying, and constantly scratching his ears.

Sometimes the baby teething causes them so much pain that it reaches the tendons of the ear, so they constantly try to scratch the ears with their fingers.
  • Loss of appetite: This process does not cause hunger in children, children often do not eat, but this symptom is not seen in all children.  In such a case, parents should try their best to give liquid food to children.
  • Swollen Gums: You may notice that your baby’s gums are swollen or tender.
  • Frequently pooping: The bowl movement of babies in the teething process increases due to which the mucus secretion is more, and it is coming out through the poop that is why their poop is very sticky during these periods. Some parents may think it is diarrhea, but it is not diarrhea.

HOW TO SOOTHE A TEETHING BABY
Baby teething is a painful time for both the mother and the child, but at such a time, we should know what we can do as a mother to calm our baby, such as,
  • Breastfeeding the baby - If the baby is small, then at such a time, the mother should breastfeed the baby whenever the baby asks for it, which reduces his discomfort.
  • Gently rub the baby's gums with a cotton cloth so that his irritation will be reduced and the baby will also feel better (do not use too cold water).
  • Use a teething ring. - This works to soothe the baby's gums. This ring is much better than biting a dangerous object.
  • If your baby is eating solid food, you should feed him soft and cool food.
  • Consult a doctor - If the baby is having more trouble, then apply teething ointment to the baby only on the advice of the baby's doctor.

TIPS FOR PARENTS UNDER SUCH CONDITIONS OF BABY THEETHING-

  • Fever- The body temperature is slightly elevated at the baby teething period, but if it is high, do not ignore it. Immediately takes medical advice.
  • Dehydration- During baby teething, the baby is suffering from diarrhea, which reduces the amount of water in their body. Care should be taken to ensure that the amount of water in the baby's body does not decrease at this time.
  • Sanitization- The baby tries to take everything in his mouth, so keeping those things clean and hygienic at this time prevents the risk of other infections.

FREQUENTLY ASK QUESTIONS

  • How long does teething period last?

Ans: The process of baby teething may not be the same in all children, in some children it may be early and pleasant, and, in some children, it may be late and painful.  We can make an estimate that this process takes a few days before the tooth emerges from the gum, i.e. a full week and a half week later.

  • Do babies drink less milk when teething?

Ans:   Babies usually drink more milk during teething to soothe their gums.  But sometimes the    gum pain is so much that they avoid drinking milk.
